Why Filter with Our TFS MG range of Insulating Fluid Treatment Systems?
Insulating Fluid is vitally important for the safe and efficient operation of many types of electrical equipment. In addition to its insulating properties, the fluid is used as a coolant in transformers and as a means of arc suppression in circuit breakers. In each case the operation of the electrical equipment depends on the purity of the insulating fluid, which in services can be contaminated by particles, water, gases and chemical products.
Should electrical equipment be continuously operated with contaminated fluid, its efficiency will be impaired, resulting eventually in the risk of total failure. Typically insulating fluid is contaminated in the following ways:
- Particles including fibres, rust and colloidal carbon.
- Free and dissolved water.
- Gases produced by fluid ageing, equipment failure and arc suppression in switchgear.
- Chemical products caused by oxidation, as well as cross contamination by other products.
Although individually each contaminant reduces the insulating characteristics of the fluid by around 20%, the combination of fibres from insulating material and water can reduce its performance by up to 90%.
Insulating fluid treatment maintains the integrity of the fluid and hence the efficient utilisation of the electrical equipment.

Our Transformer oil treatment plants provide a tried and tested solution for the dehydration and treatment of a range of insulating oil. In many cases, treatment with a plant from our MG range of plants will result in an oil of a higher specification than when originally supplied as new.
TFS Australian made Transformer oil treatment plants are used around the world by major electrical utilities, end users, service companies and transformer builders.
Our plants offer high performance, reliability and ease of use. Treatment with our plants will;
- Reduce total water content from 50ppm to less than 5ppm in a single pass, and to less than 3ppm in three passes.
- Remove virtually all suspended solids greater than 1 micron.
- Reduce dissolved gas content from 10% by volume to less than 0.25% by volume in a single pass, and to less than 0.1% by volume in three passes.
TFS MG Range of transformer oil treatment plants are available using our disposable high efficiency microglass filter cartridges,.
Transformer Filtration Systems have the experience and expertise to provide tailor made solutions specifically designed to suit your business needs.
